  • 492 S Orange St - Staff Report: The applicant proposes to convert an existing attached garage into a new accessory dwelling unit and construct a new attached garage onto the rear of an existing single family residence. The property is a non-contributing resource (i.e. non-historic).

  • PrimeVestment Residence - 447 S Shaffer St - A proposal to reconstruct a demolished service porch, construct a 15 square foot new addition, and construct a 303 square foot detached one-car garage on a contributing property in the Old Towne Historic District. The project was continued by the DRC on March 1, 2017
  • McGuire/Moreno Residence - 539/541 E. Washington Ave - A proposal for exterior alterations to an existing single family residence. The property is a contributing historic resource within the Old Towne Historic District.

  • Study Session on Draft Update to Historic Preservation Design Standards for Old Towne - A study session to review and discuss the draft update to the Historic Preservation Design Standards for Old Towne. This is the first of multiple meetings with the Design Review Committee to review the draft update. The study session covers the first half of the document from the introduction through the Standards for Historic Building Features, pages 1-26. The remainder of the document will be reviewed during a separate study session.

  • Villa Park Orchrards (VPO) Packing House - Chapman Student Housing - A proposal for rehabilitation of the Villa Park Orchards Association (VPOA) Packing House, relocation of existing historic era accessory structures, and construction of a new multi-story, multi-family student residential building (West Residential Village.) The property is within the boundaries of the Old Towne National Historic District.​

  • Killefer School (Click for Staff Report) - The applicant proposes to adaptively reuse a historic school building and construct eight new buildings for student housing. The Spanish Colonial Revival style school building is listed separately in the National Register of Historic Places. The project will include 80 units of apartment-style student housing with a total of 354 beds and parking for 200 cars. The proposed student housing use will require approval of a Specific Plan for the development. The Design Review Committee (DRC) conducted a preliminary review of the project on September 2, 2015. The applicant is requesting a second preliminary review by the DRC to receive additional feedback on the proposed project, including rehabilitation of the historic building and the mass, scale and design of the new construction.

  • The Wall Restaurant - A proposal to install new signage and awnings for a new restaurant in the Plaza Historic District. The signage, awnings and lighting were previously approved by the DRC on November 18, 2015; however, the applicant is requesting approval of a new sign design and different color awnings. The restaurant also will have an outdoor dining area in the northeast quadrant of the Plaza, approved under Outdoor Dining Permit No. 06-15. Under the Outdoor Dining Ordinance, the Community Development Director has final approval of the outdoor dining furniture. Staff is seeking the DRC’s recommendation on the compatibility of the outdoor dining furniture with the Plaza Historic District.
  • The Urth Cafe - The applicant proposes alterations to a previously approved plan to rehabilitate a historic building in the Plaza Historic District for use as a restaurant. These alterations are based on additional information uncovered during construction. The project also includes a request for final approval of a paint color for the alley (south) elevation of the building. As a condition of approval of the project, the DRC requested that the paint color in the alley return to the Committee for final approval, after the paint and plaster had been removed from the north and east elevations of the building.

WANT MORE PARKING IN OLD TOWNE?   

Then show up at the City’s Town Hall Meeting at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, July 8 at the Orange Main Library, 407 E. Chapman.   Details of the Orange Metrolink Parking Structure to be built at Maple and Lemon is the topic, and you’ll see the renderings and hear the details.  Your Old Towne Preservation Association has worked with the City to make sure it’s appropriate for the historic Old Towne neighborhood, and several of our design suggestions have been incorporated.  Come and hear the details, and offer your comments if you like.   Check it out online at www.cityoforange.org/metrolinkparkingstructure.
